Mr. Dong Zuo learned how to sculpt an inkstone from his father by hanging around all the times since his childhood. When he was young, he used to see his father chiseling a Luosishih into inkslab, so he was imperceptibly influenced by what he saw and what he heard around his father before he finally follow ed his father's path of no return. Perhaps his father had predicted this aptitude in denominating his son's name as ¸³§¤ ( Dong Zuo), a name with profound meaning as the Chinese character §¤ (sit) have the same pronunciation as °µ ( do ), so that ¸³§¤ means willing to sit down and having the know-how to do things. Besides, his father also wished that his son be endowed with an ability to create art object. Therefore, it augers well that Dong Zuo could no longer leave Luosishih for the rest of his life. |

| I experienced many frustrations and difficulties for the handicraft of inkslab in the previous 30 years. As I sought for inkstones on the bed of Chuosuei River in earlier years, many people used to laugh at me. Even when I opened the Inkslab Art Museum in 1982, many people still speculated that it could be closed before long, because there was not yet any exclusive retail shop of Luosishih that came to the scenes of Ershuei street . | |
| Those arduous encounters all pointed out one thing to Mr. Dong Zuo that he had to undergo many challenges. It was mainly due to the consumers' unawareness of the art of inkstone. So Mr. and Mrs. Dong Zuo enthusiastically participated in every possible occasion for the exhibition of folk culture and craftsmanship, in order to promote the inkslab of Luosishih, hoping that the world would eventually recognize its beauty and cultural values. Now that the amateurs are increasing in large scales over times, his painstaking efforts have been duly rewarded. | |
| To date, Mr. Dong Zuo still feels grateful of his father for leaving him this precious fortune (craftsmanship), and of his wife, Mrs. Guan Feng-Jiao for her attentive care of the family logistics, that made it possible for him to be concentrated in his art work. | |
